CNNGo, a web-based spin-off of CNN tracking the zeitgeist of six of Asia’s most significant cities, has picked up our new book “21st Century Tokyo.” In an online interview, prominent Japan pundit W. David Marx talks to authors Julian Worrall and Erez Golani Solomon about Tokyo’s contemporary architecture, covering topics such as what Japan’s “post-bubble low-growth” paradigm means for the city, why the Heisei era is built of glass, and how Japanese architects are contributing to architectural culture globally. Joshua Lieberman’s photography really gives the piece visual punch.
This interview is the first in-depth media coverage that the book has generated so far. It is not surprising that it was picked up by an Asia-focussed travel and entertainment media outlet. But it is also beginning to be noticed in rather more unexpected places. For example, this article surreptitiously popped up last week: “Tokyo – the city where the future has arrived.” Where? On the website of Portugese national news agency Lusa, of all places. From there, the article has spread all across the Lusosphere (the Portugese-speaking world).
Media coverage such as this will be archived on the book’s own official website, along with other materials and information that relate to contemporary architecture in Tokyo.
